Description
The L78 series of three-pin positive regulators with three connectors is available in TO-220 and TO-220FP, D²PAK and DPAK enclosures and multiple fixed output voltages, making it useful for a wide range of applications. These controllers can provide local on-card regulation, eliminating the distribution problems associated with single point regulation. Each type has internal current limitation, thermal shutdown and safe area protection, making it essentially indestructible. If there is an adequate heat sink, they can provide an output current of more than 1 A. Although these devices were primarily developed as fixed voltage regulator, they can be used with external components to obtain adjustable voltages and currents.
